k-12 physical education

People like to joke and say, "those who can't do, teach; those who can't teach, teach gym." To all those people, I challenge them to fill the shoes of a physical educator or important coach for a day. To me, these are some of the most difficult jobs, but also some of the most rewarding.

Having grown up playing competitive sports since the age of nine, I knew I wanted to be a coach some day. As such, I studied Physical Education through the school of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan. It is here that I not only learned about the study of movement, anatomy, physiology, and bio-mechanics, but I also learned how to lesson plan, observe, collect and analyze data, as well as manage a group--in a classroom, in a gym, in a pool, on a court, on a field, and more.

Without a doubt, my time in this program has taught me more about education and teaching than anywhere else. I will forever applaud and give thanks to Professor Kerry Winkelseth fora majority of this educational experience.

Alternate Assignments
Physical Education is either loved or hated by students and parents alike. Typically, little kids love gym! However, as bodies grow and change, puberty hits, insecurities, attitudes, and involvement in gym class can alter as well.

So, for the kids who don't remember to bring the school appropriate gym attire, as well as for those who are injured, ill, or otherwise not able to participate in class, an alternate assignment is available for HALF the daily CREDIT.
That being said, this point value depends on the situation and whether or not there is a parent or doctors note available.
