Professional Transition Plan
Professional Transition Plan (PTP) is still a graduation requirement for the junior English class. The PTP is a professional portfolio that has gotten students to start thinking about post-graduation plans including college, the classes and tests (SATs) they need to take in high school to get into their college of choice, financial aide, and so on.

In addition to novel and vocabulary study, students were prepared for life after high school. First of all, students were taught the steps of writing a formal essay through notes and examples. They put this information into practice several times by writing a formal typed essay each term. I believe this assisted them with the HSA test as well as prepared them for college or post-high school life. Not only do I believe that formal essay writing prepared these students for life after high school, but teaching the “Professional Transition Plan” (PTP) and having students create a PTP portfolio to use on a mock interview also helped prepare them think about post-high school plans.
This PTP portfolio consisted of a cover page, a cover letter, a resume, a job application, a W-4, and copies of their Hawaii ID and Social Security Card. Later these students used this portfolio during a mock interview with me.
